When I started YouTube I had little resources, I didn't know how to really start off my channel and I wasn't the most confident of people. But that didn't stop me! I started off shy and yes my videos were very bad! (Some say they still are haha!) But this was because I was first starting. I only recorded my videos on PC because I had good software to capture my screen. For face cams and voice I used a cheap webcam, bad mistake that was! The sound wasn't too bad but you can really tell the difference between how "Un-professional" My videos were and now they are more "Professional".

Here are some tips that may help you out and get you some extra views along the way:

(1.) Quality> Quantity: The Quality of your videos is one big part of it, if someone clicks your video and the audio is too loud, fuzzy, the image is blurry or distorted they are going to either close the video or leave a comment and not watch it.

(2.) Originality: This is one that always pops up, try be original and I don't mean you have to think of a whole new idea just try do what nobody else does, a good one for that is to be yourself & also maybe try collab with some other youtubers sometimes it can boost your engagement with  your audience and theirs.

(3.) Thumbnails: Are you using nice thumbnails? People tend to click on videos if the thumbnail looks promising. You can create thumbnails and art in Photoshop, "GiMP" Image editor, and also Serif. Intros can be created at http://www.flixpress.com/ and also at a website named "Panzoid" here: panzoid.com/

(4.) Titles & tags: Are you titling/tagging your videos correctly? Using misleading titles is bad but also using too many short words such as "a" and "the" can be potentially excluded from searches. Tagging your videos correctly is key as well as some good SEO (search engine optimization) which are keywords will get your videos more frequently appear in searches depending on key words and what people search for.

For example: If I’m searching for dog I will want to find a dog not a video of a gecko licking a wall or something not at all related, although I guess finding a gecko licking a wall would be funny :P.

(5.) Uploading: Keep uploading regularly, this will get you an audience and fans which you can engage with, and with that audience you will want to listen to them and they'll suggest improvements and other things they like/dislike. Engagement through twitter and Facebook is good because you are keeping in contact with your fans and not ignoring them so they actually feel like you care about them and remember them. Not only will it create user engagement but the more you upload the more your videos are indexed in searches, the less you upload the more likely it is that your videos will drop in searches.

(6) Good Equipment, Get a nice external microphone, a good headset, capture card, a decent computer and more than one screen (optional).

What I have about YouTube is they always favour bigger youtubers, and I don't mean people with a few thousand subs I mean people with over 50k or bigger, ones that are verified. No matter how hard some small channels try nothing can catapult them into searches or got noticed until they do something that gets lots of engagement, and that comes back to being able to be noticed. If you do any search in YouTube notice how big Youtubers (with ticks are large numbers of subscribers) normally show? Yes, that's because YouTube favours them. This puts smaller youtubers at an unfair advantage.

YouTube recently rolled out a donation feature in which a viewer or subscriber can donate money to their channel. I found this feature good in some ways, but once again YouTube is ignoring the use of smaller channels, well if you're from:

  • Australia (AU)

  • Japan (JP)

  • Mexico (MX)

  • United States (US)

Then you can apply for fan funding, but it's more likely you see it on bigger channels. This would be great for small channels as they can collect donations to help out their video, but when they rolled it out originally only bigger channels where getting it... I find it real annoying how big British YouTubers like KSI, JoeWeller etc all have funding which actually goes against what YouTube says... so apparently it is only available in 4 countries but these channels have it?! It makes no sense, but no hate on the channels I love them all, it's just YouTube don't make sense sometimes.

Hope these tips help you out! I will be constantly updating this with more information :) Luke games signing out #stayfrosty
